After a very respectable 10-4 week 3, I am going to try my hand again. Bitch and I will be Zach Duking it out each week right here. On a similar note, Zach Duke tries to lock up the season series versus Gustavo Chacin tonight. Chacin can still tie, but Duke has a been playing well and will be gunning for win number 11. But first, on with the picks:
Arizona at Atlanta: Atlanta
How pissed are the Falcons going to be that they lost last week? I think they come out firing on all cylinders and beat up on the helpless Cardinals. In a stunning turn of events Warner only fumbles 4 times!
Dallas at Tennessee: Dallas
Sorry Titans, but you won't find a win this week. If TO plays, he lights up the board. If he doesn't, then the team has another week without that whiny, self-centered, little P.O.S. What a jackass!
Indianapolis vs. NY Jets: Indianapolis
Pennington has been impressive so far, and will continue his solid play - but come on, this is still the New York Jets we are talking about. Indy stays undefeated in a rout. On a side note, Pedro will miss the entire post-season...HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
Miami at Houston: Miami
Look nobody is impressed with either of these teams, but someone has to win. Culpepper, my boy, has been a major bust. True he is coming off MAJOR surgery, but still! Come on Daunte!
Minnesota at Buffalo: Minnesota
I have a rule: Never bet on your own team. I try and I try, and I try to stick to that rule. More often than not I am able to stay away from those games. But this week, I have to pick a winner in every game. Minnesota could have beaten the Bears last week if it weren't for that shabby handoff from Johnson to Taylor. One bad bounce and they lose. Tough game, but the great teams win those games. That being said, I truly believe they have what it takes to beat the Bills.
New Orleans at Carolina: Carolina
Big win last week. Scratch that...HUGE win last week by the Saints. They were so jacked up to be back home, they could have been playing the '72 Dolphins and won. When a team is SO psyched to play a game, it's sometimes hard to carry that passion over to the next game. It's inevitable that they can't be as pumped as they were for Monday. A Carolina team with Smith back in the lineup is a dangerous one. Look for the Panthers to get back to .500 with a win.
San Diego at Baltimore: San Diego
Every piece of logic says that I should go with the Ravens. They are very tough at home. They have a superior D. McNair is playing well. I even like the Ravens...but something inside tells me that they don't win this football game. For no reason besides a gut feel, I take the Chargers.
San Francisco at Kansas City: Kansas City
I'll give you three reasons that the Chiefs win this game: Larry Johnson. Larry Johnson. Larry Johnson.
Detroit at St. Louis: Detroit
For a similar reason that New Orleans won last week (to a WAY smaller degree), the Lions will win this game. Sure Martz says that this game isn't any more special than the next, but the players know that's not true. Look for the Lions to step up and win one for the gipper.
Cleveland at Oakland: Cleveland
Well colour me orange and call me a believer. After a very impressive game against the Ravens, maybe the Browns are on to something. Then again, maybe not. But Oakland is bad. With a little extra confidence stemming from their Raven barnburner, this is Clevelands game to lose.
Jacksonville at Washington: Jacksonville
Why don't they use Chris Cooley? I was all psyched because this was truly his breakout (fantasy) year. His numbers stink. He was a stud last year, but they have gone away from using him. Until I see some signs of life from this 'Skins offense, I can't pick'em.
New England at Cincinnati: Cincinnati
Great game. I can't wait to watch this. Arguably two of the best three quarterbacks in the game go head to head. Losing Branch was a bit hit to this Pats team. They are a great "team", but even "teams" need to have standout players. Cinci is stacked with offense: Rudi, Housh, CJ, and this kid Henry should be enough to get by a young Pats team.
Seattle at Chicago: Seattle
A tough game for me to predict. I like this Seattle team. Sure I like them a little less without their stud, but it's still a very good team. Chicago didn't do much to impress me last week. I predicted a win by the Bears over Minnesota, but I didn't think it would be that close. Sure they kept the Vikes from scoring at ton of points, but Dave and I could probably do that too. In a tough game, I think Seattle finds a way to score enough points to get by the Bears.
Green Bay at Philadelphia: Philadelphia
In keeping with my evil master plan, the Eagles will continue to win until they give their fans hope - and then they will get smoked!!!! I hate Eagles fans. I HATE them. If I thought it would do any good, I would curse the Eagles to never win another game. But for this week, GO EAGLES.

Go Yuccaneers
I've done it now.
Last night in running my mouth I bet Liam $1 that the Tampa Bay Yuccaneers, who are now down to Brad Gradkowski at QB, this year will go 0-16. I'm sticking to this. With no offensive line, no quarterback (therefore no passing game), an aging defense, and a brutal schedule for the rest of the season... I do not foresee the Bucs winning a game this season.
I may lose this if Chris Simms can recover and come back to help the team in the late season... but then again, maybe not.

J-E-T-S...Jets, Jets, Jets!!!
Man-crush or not, Chad Pennington just made me a cool dollar! CHA-Ching!

Not great numbers by anyone's standards, 19-29 for 193 and 1 TD, but like the great quarterbacks, he found a way to win. Now, by no means am I comparing Chad Pennington to the greats, but he did find a way to win. And I am a richer man because of it.
Now, with only one week remaining in the baseball season, please stand and cheer-on the following players (daddy needs a new pair of shoes) down the stretch:
Zach Duke
Troy Glaus
Lyle Overbay
Carlos Zambrano
As always, good bets bitch, good bets!

Ling's Week III
Carolina at Tampa Bay, pick: Carolina
It's go-time for the Panthers and Bucs but whereas the Panthers will be re-energized by the return of Steve Smith the Bucs are teetering on QB disaster if Chris Simms can not find himself because behind Simms there is nobody except Jimmy the Ticket Usher.
Chicago at Minnesota, pick: Chicago
As the unofficial founder of the Rex Grossman fan club outside of the greater Chicago area I am now selectively allowing members to join. In Grossman I trust.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh, pick: Cincinnati
After getting his bell rung last week Chad Johnson may still be asking "who dey?" But in the regular season, while Big Ben is still not 100% and the Steelers are coming off a short week, give me the Bengals.
Green Bay at Detroit, pick: Detroit
Liam refered to the shoddy play of Green Bay, now I'm going to be a lot more accurate, the play is actually downright shitty. Retire Favre before you ruin your HOF career.
Jacksonville at Indianapolis, pick: Indianapolis
Jacksonville had a fantastic game on Monday, however Sunday should be the letdown game after a short week, Indy takes care of business.
N.Y. Jets at Buffalo, pick: Buffalo
Time for a difference maker, Liam took the Jets because he has a man-crush on Chad Pennington. However, I will take the Bills D to shut down the Chad Pennington Renaissance Tour 2006.
Tennessee at Miami, pick: Miami
I refuse to pick a team who starts Kerry Collins at QB.
Washington at Houston, pick: Washington
C'mon, I couldn't pick Houston for fear that I might laugh to death. Poor Gary Kubiak might be forced to take snaps for the Texans after David Carr's career ends around week 9.
Former Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns, pick: Former Cleveland Browns
The originals are always better then sequals, its like a rule in Hollywood and for this year it extends to the ultimate in rivalry games in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns versus the former Cleveland Browns. I'm picking the former Cleveland Browns to win comfortably.
N.Y. Giants at Seattle, pick: Seattle
Seattle should handle the Giants who after 3000 miles will have a rough go of it against the NFC Champions. Hasselbeck and Alexander will not blow a 4th Quarter lead like the Eagles did last week for NYG. That is why the Eagles will not be a playoff team in 2006-07
Philadelphia at San Francisco, pick: Philadelphia
The Eagles may not be a playoff team in 2006-07 but the 49ers might not be a playoff team for 6 or 7 years. Philly squashes the 49ers, which will offer little consolation after shitting the bed last week.
St. Louis at Arizona, pick: Arizona
I don't foresee as much passing in this game as Liam does. Linehan is running the ball a lot with Stephen Jackson and the media in Arizona is all over Edge for his lack of productivity thus far this season. Sure, Arizona will end up airing it out in the second half but both teams will try and establish the run early. I like Arizona but only because they're at home.
Denver at New England, pick: New England
Never trust Jake Plummer. Always trust Tom Brady. Sometimes picking NFL games just comes down to simple logic.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Atlanta at New Orleans, pick: Atlanta
ATL with Mike Vick, Warrick Dunn, and Jerious Norwood will run all night long in the Super Dome. Maybe Reggie Bush can punch something into the end zone this week? Final score, ATL 33 to NO 14, although this week that won't need to be a tie-breaker.
My tactic is simple this week versus Liam, we only disagree on one game so Liam has put all his eggs into one basket with the New York Jets. Sure I am putting my eggs with the Buffalo Bills, but to this point they've been the better team. Winner of the Bills vs. Jets will determine the winner between Liam and Ling this week.
Season to date: 23-9.

Week 3 Picks
Alright Football Fans, here we go. The latest and greatest of the bitch bets. Understanding that Ling Bitch is having a season that Phil Connors would be proud of, I have decided to try my hand at some football picks. And here we go...
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
As much as I hate both of these teams, one has to win. With the past two games Pennington has proven that he is back on track to a solid season, while the Bills have yet to prove to me that Losman is the man to take them to the promised land. In a very close game, the New York Jets will prevail.
Green Bay at Detroit
Neither team has played very well this year. In fact, Green Bay has been downright awful. Favre had an "off" year last year...But this year is proving that maybe it's not a case of a bad year, he is no longer the QB that he was. Green Bay continues their shoddy play by losing to Detroit.
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
As impressive as Jacksonville has been, they are facing a very tough Indy team on enemy territory. This game is the opposite of the GB - Det game. Someone has to lose, and in this case, Sorry Jacksonville. Indy in a shootout.
Tennessee at Miami
It pains me to see my boy Daunte Culpepper playing so poorly. It's not like he doesn't have offensive weapons. Chambers and McMichael should be enough on their own that Miami could win a game or two. So far, they are 0-2. That all changes this weekend as they are able to squeak out a victory against a Tennessee team fighting for an identity.
Chicago at Minnesota
My name is Liam Weseloh, and I am a Vikings fan. There, I said it. They say that admitting it is the first step to recovery. I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the Vikes to be good. Good thing that I have years of practice as a Leafs fan in this area. The Vikes are off to a great start at 2-0. With big wins against Washington and a reeling Carolina team, the Vikes could have easily been 0-2 in another year. The games against the Bears are always good, no matter who is playing well or who is playing poorly. The Bears have shown that they are a dominating team on the Defensive side. If I knew that the Vikes had an outstanding offense, I might be able to pick them, but they win games by playing solid D and squeaking by on the scoreboard. I pray that I am wrong, but the Vikes will be walking away from this game only 1 game over .500. GO VIKINGS!!!!!!
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
Ouch, tough game to call. The defending Super Bowl Champs are not playing like champs. Rothlesburger was understandably shaky last week, and this week won't be much better. It's a long season, and I think that the Steel will be okay in the long run. In the meantime, look for Carson Palmer to continue his winning streak. Bengals score a big win in Pittsburgh.
Carolina at Tampa Bay
What, is every matchup this week two undefeated teams or two winless teams? In another battle that someone has to win it's a toss-up. I'm a Simms believer, but it takes more than a good QB to win games. Cadillac has played more like a 12 year old Hyundai than a Cadi. Not that Carolina has done much better. Without Steve Smith the entire Panther team has been asked to step it up...And they have most definitely dropped the ball. All that changes this week....Well, maybe not. But at least Carolina does enough to squeak past a struggling Tampa Bay team.
Washington at Houston
Why don't the 'Skins use Chris Cooley more? They have a great TE, but they haven't done much with him. I honestly believe that Cooley sees serious touches this weekend, and the 'Skins are able to get past the Oiler....er, Texans.
Baltimore at Cleveland
Finally, a gimme. Baltimore. If there is a more impressive team that the Black and Purple, I haven't seen 'em play yet.
St. Louis at Arizona
As I gaze into the crystal ball, I see lots and lots and LOTS of passing. The only way I would be more interested in this game would be if the Rams were the Rams of a few years ago. I am a pass junky. I love watching the long bomb. And here are two teams that are all about the fireworks. With Fitz and Bolden I could pass for 300 yards a game. If this were the Rams of a few years ago, I might have to go with the Rams...But the year is 2006 and the Cardinals are the new Rams. Fitz and Bolden enjoy a big game by Kurt Warner. Cards win in an exciting pass heavy game.
Philadelphia at San Francisco
I don't care. Honestly, I really don't. Well, that's not entirely true. I want the Eagles to lose. Nothing brings more joy to my Stanley Cupless Maple Leaf heart than to watch Eagles fans watch their team lose. That's a lie. Nothing warms my heart more than to watch the Eagles win during the regular season, only to lose in new and unique ways in the post-season. This weekend, in an effort to set those same Eagles up for a post-season loss, the Eagles will win. It's all part of the master plan...Mu-wahahahahahaha!
New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks
Seattle is very good. Seattle was good before they got Deion Branch. Oh, and did I mention that Seattle is almost unbeatable at home?! Even without Shaun Alexander being the stud that he is, the Seahawks have been able to win their first two games. Shaun is due for a big game. It's gonna happen soon. Whether it happens this weekend or not, the 'Hawks win.
Denver at New England
If this were in Denver, I might have to go with Denver. If I could throw for 300 a game in the Cardinals lineup, I could rush for 150 in the Broncos lineup. That still wouldn't guarantee a victory, and in New England you need more than just a good run game. The Pats D is underrated, and they might be able to contain the running machine that is Denver. Look for the Pats to find a way to win. Brady is the Gustavo Chacin of the NFL. He just plain wins (albeit with better numbers than Chacin).
Atlanta at New Orleans
This is a game that I have struggled with. This is New Orleans game to lose. They are going to have such a HUGE boost playing back in the Superdome. The Saints have a decent team, but I'm not entirely sold that this year is their year. They are definitely on their way to redemption, but the Falcons are a good team NOW. Vick has more rushing yards than most running backs. I don't see the Saints being able to contain Vick or Dunn. That two headed beast will be too much, and the Falcons will play the very, very, VERY serious spoilers. The entire country is behind the Saints this weekend. Too bad that doesn't mean they get the W. The Saints need a victory for the city, but they will take consolation in the fact that they give a very tough team a run for their money. Close but no cigar. The Saints lose a heartbreaker in a close game. So close that it might be decided by a field goal.
If a tie-breaker is needed, it is typically decided on the score of the Monday night game. Falcons win a close one 17-14.
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills

NFL Picks Challenge
Liam Bitch made the challenge so I accepted the bet. Each week we will make our NFL picks, straight up winners with no spread, and to the winner goes the $1 each week.
The tie breaker, should it be needed will be the total combined score of the two teams in the Monday Nighter (ie. in Week 1 the Chargers defeated the Raiders 27-0, so the combined score of the two team is obviously 27+0=27).
Picks will be posted prior to the kick off of the early games. In cases that there are Thursday games (later in the season for the NFL Network and during American Thanksgiving) and Saturday games later in the season, those picks can be made seperately but before kickoff and posted on this site.
I have been regularly posting my picks on The Vortex and Liam thinks he can do better.. Bring it on Bitch! Picks start for Week 3!

Gustavo Pulls Even
Gustavo Chacin picked up big victory #8 on the season, moving his impressive record to 8-3 whereas Zach Puke hasn't won a game since the first airing of Rockstar Supernova and stands at an unimpressive 8-14. Maybe if Puke was more focused on winning he would have pulled way out ahead while Chacin was on the DL for 3 months.
Stayed tuned this week as Chacin goes for win #9! and Puke goes for loss #15!

Standings Update: Liam vs. Ling
To date here are the updated standings....
Ling... 8
Liam... 6
Still running bets:
Vernon Wells HRs (Ling) vs. Troy Glaus HRs (Liam)
After tonight's game and VW's 2-run HR puts him at 31 homers versus Glaus' 34
Shea Hillenbrand HRs (Ling) vs. Lyle Overbay HRs (Liam)
Shea had just 12 HRs with the Jays but upon being traded to San Fran he's added another 8 to put him at 20 total versus Overbay's 19.
Combined.. Wells & Hillenbrand HRs (Ling) vs. Glaus & Overbay HRs (Liam)
Simple math, VW & Shea at 51 to Glaus & Overbay at 53. Good bet, should go down to the wire.
Dontrelle Willis over/under 14.5 victories in 2006 (Liam with the over)
The D-Train sits at just 9 wins so far this season despite the surprising season of the Marlins.
Zach Puke (Liam) versus Gustavo Chacin (Ling) in terms of wins
Chacin has missed most of the season with elbow problems but he's still at 7 wins and just behind Puke who stands at 8.
Aaron Hill will finish in the top 5 in AL second basemen fielding percentage
Amongst everyday 2B in the AL the top fielding percentages are....
1. Mark Ellis (OAK) .996
2. Mark Grudzielanek (KC) .995
3. Mark Loretta (BOS) .993
4. Aaron Hill (TOR) .991
5. Brian Roberts (BAL) .990
6. Luis Castillo (MIN) .989
7. Placido Polanco (DET) .988
8. Tad Iguchi (CWS) .987
Obviously the top 7 are all very close, but Aaron Hill is still right in there at #4.
With Hockey ready to start we have the 2nd year of the Alex Ovechkin versus Sidney Crosby goals challenge.
The newest wager is Ling has atleast 2 Leafs scoring 30 goals this year, Liam has bet against.
That's where we're at right now.
Ling... 8
Liam...
Ling Backs The Leafs
In a dramatic shift in opinion I have chosen to show some faith in the Toronto Maple Leafs this season when Liam has seemingly spurned his beloved Leafs.
For $1 I have bet that atleast 2 Leafs will score 30 goals in this upcoming season. Yes, I am betting that the Leafs will actually score goals this year and after the disaster that was 2005-06 that saw Mats Sundin lead the team with just 31 goals, 3 greater then Darcy Tucker who scored a career high 28 goals.
It will be the task of new coach Paul Maurice to lead the Leafs through a rebuilding process in the most impatient hockey market on the globe, however, mark it down, atleast 2 Leafs will score 30 and I'll be up another $1.
